I thought I'd start a general thread for one of my favorite authors, apropos of I may have made an impromptu New Year's resolution to reread his entire bibliography (almost typed Disc-ography, lol) but in chronological order this time. So far this month I've read the first three, up to Equal Rites. I'm actually missing the next one, and I think it might be the only Discworld book I haven't read before, so I'm kind of excited for it.

I keep thinking about a post I saw on tumblr a few years after Terry Pratchett passed away, about how if he were still around to witness the general state of the world he'd probably have something really angry and brilliant to say about it, so my current coping mechanism for the uhhh *gestures vaguely at the horrors* is "Sir Terry, are you seeing this sh*t?"

I haven't read his works, but they're on my to-read list. Oddly my only real exposure to Discworld was running into the PS1 game at one of the local rental stores as a kid.

I was reminded of the series today when I was saving a bunch of book recommendation charts and came across this:

Very cool.

Oh, that's awesome! It's cool to see the entire series charted out like that. I do appreciate that they're written so you can kind of read them in any order, but that they also build on each other within a particular thematic and/or character arc (I particularly liked the character development in the Watch novels, which also tend to be my favorites).

For what it's worth I read them completely at random the first time and had a blast. The first one I read was Small Gods because one of my best friends in high school recommended it, and then I just went for whatever was in stock at the local mall bookstore based on vibes until I got caught up.

There's a few on that chart I don't think I've read yet--more than I thought, actually. And oddly enough, I vaguely recall having heard about the video game at some point before I knew about the books.
