Xenogears: The Perfect Edition

Hi.
A month ago, Xenocritus and a few others (including me) started a project with a simple aim: to try and make Xenogears the best it can be.
We're retranslating the whole thing, adding details from Perfect Works, adding better combat balance, zooming, etc. We've got a good amount of people currently on board, but I believe there's no such thing as too many helpers.
There's a discord you can join- it's pretty much our base of operations.
I'm on there as ribbiwawa, so feel free to join and maybe even help if you would like to.

This sounds awesome! I think I saw this posted in one of the discord servers I was in. What kind of progress have you guys made so far?

We have retranslated all the way up to meeting Bart (although it's mostly been me so it's been quite slow.) We successfully implemented zooming as well, and came up with a full list of combat balance changes.
 
Wow, that is really exciting! Kudos on the hard work! Idk if I can really help, but I'm rooting for you guys.

This project is exciting!! If I had more free time on my hands I'd love to help. Is there any need for stuff like monetary donations to keep infrastructure afloat?
 
If you need a scenario writer onboard (I can't program stuff etc) I would like to offer my help in writing out Liquid Sky as a playable scenario (I honestly feel that it belongs there because of its odd status as "half canon" literally being from one of the creators herself, and would bridge the gap between the crash from space and suddenly Lahan fairly well (and make more stuff make sense sooner, if that appeals) Using 99 percent dialogue from the English translation we have of it, and only adding stuff like flavor text/action text/transforming from comic to script.

I would also love to explore alternate endings/alternate probability paths ala Chrono Trigger/Cross but that's more in the realm of AU fanfiction/theory because that would be just "seeing where this could go if it was a branch path," so that would be more appropriate if say the game was more of a fangame/doujin game than an actual rebuild of the ISO that's strict canon compliance.

My apologies for not seeing this sooner. We really need people to edit the scripts, so if you're willing to do so, please help us.

I will gladly do so! Only thing is I don't speak Japanese so I can't do a retranslation. That said, I am a writer and editor so if it's anything from proofing to "this can be worded in three ways, all of which are correct, which sounds most natural" to making Liquid Sky flow as playable (or at least readable as visual novel format to fit within the game rather than its original manga) content based off an existing translation (I would use the one by the scanlations group with credit to them unless you have someone who wants to retranslate, then I would go with their work), to adding filler text to make NPCs etc work better without changing the game, to constructing entire alternate non-canonical endings/paths... I can do all of that and more.

Pretty much all I CAN'T do writing/editing wise is code (e.g. if say you did decide to include Liquid Sky, as an example, I would need to work with your coder to see what your vision is - repurposing/creating assets and trying to make it playable OR just a "memories/reading the documents" thing - and once our ideas were in line, I would convert to script and actions format for them to work with) or directly translate from JP - in that case I would either work with Honeywood translation + the Xenogears/Xenosaga Study Guide corrections on it for existing game content and for Liquid Sky would use the existing translation with credit to the people who did it, OR would need to work with your new translator, whichever worked best for you! :) )

It's been a loooooooooooooooooong time since our last update here specifically, but we are proud to announce that the Xenogears Perfect Works Build has completed its goal: We have redone the entire script, and added details from Perfect Works to every part.
And we even went beyond: We've added balance changes to make the game more fun to play!
